Why Are More People Choosing Wholegrain Snacks?
Snacking has changed. More people are looking beyond convenience and thinking about what their snacks are made from. For wellbeing-focused shoppers, that has helped bring wholegrain snacks back into the spotlight.
Fibre Is Having a Moment
In the UK, adults are advised to eat 30g of fibre a day, yet most adults average around 20g. The latest National Diet and Nutrition Survey also found that 96% of adults and children aged 11 to 18 are not meeting fibre recommendations.
That gap has made fibre a much bigger conversation for shoppers who want snacks that do more than simply fill a gap between meals
Why Wholegrains Appeal
Wholegrains retain more of the original grain, including the bran and germ. According to the British Dietetic Association, wholegrains can contain up to 75% more nutrients than refined cereals and provide fibre, B vitamins, essential fatty acids, protein, antioxidants and minerals.
For shoppers trying to make more considered choices, wholegrain snacks offer something familiar, versatile and ingredient led.
The Move Towards Simpler Ingredients
There is also growing interest in foods that feel less heavily processed. The Food Standards Agency reported that food prices and ultra-processed foods were the top two food concerns in March 2025, with 78% of consumers concerned about ultra-processed food.
That does not mean people are giving up convenience. It means more people are looking for everyday foods made with recognisable ingredients.
