Development of this new range, “Orkney Heritage” has been designed to sit alongside our existing more traditional Scottish oatcakes, building on our values of heritage, provenance, healthy choice and quality, to appeal to a wider consumer base.

Hand baked with ancient grain spelt wheat and coarse ground wholegrain oats, enhanced by the savoury notes of herb and pepper.

Spelt is an ancient grain that is a source of protein and dietary fibre with a delicate sweet, nutty flavour. From the Bronze to Medieval Ages it was a staple food in parts of Europe and today is seeing a revival.

The fertile lands of the Orkney Islands have seen crops harvested for thousands of years and we have chosen spelt as a nod to our rich heritage of baking.

Hand baked with ancient grain bere barley and coarse ground wholegrain oats, with a complement of cheese and a kick of chilli.

Bere Barley has a distinctive earthy, nutty flavour, a high fibre content and contains a significant amount of multi nutrients. This ancient grain is grown close to our bakery, is harvested and then ground to form beremeal at the traditional water powered Barony Mill.

The fertile lands of the Orkney Islands have grown crops since Neolithic times. The use of bere barley is a nod to our home’s rich history while the chilli kick adds a more modern twist.
